Here's a hint, they can drive cars. That's right, Congress officially acts more like a bunch of kids than kids themselves. I'm sick and tired of listening to these clowns in Congress point the finger at each other about who's to blame for all of our problems. Here is the answer, all of you in Congress are to blame. When you clowns can't sit down and figure out any solutions to these issues, you have no right to be in Congress.
Recently, Congress held our economic future hostage while trying to figure out the whole debt ceiling issue. Conservatives what to cut spending and Liberals want to raise taxes and some wanted a mix of both. When you're a rich politician, it's very hard to understand what's best to do for America when you have no idea how American's really live. I'm not homeless and therefore, I have no idea what someone goes through on a daily basis that is. Can someone in Congress tell me the impact of cutting funding for public schools when there children likely go to a private school? Probably not, yet they're the one's making the decisions for us everyday and doing a horrible job too. Like most American's, I pay my fair share of taxes and when I hear Congress talking about raising them, I get a little nervous. It's not that I'm against paying my fair share, in fact I'm happy to. What I don't like is when that money goes to a bunch of pork spending to pay back some political campaign debt. When it goes to public schools, our military (not military contractors that make 10 times our actual soldiers), police, fire departments, etc, than I feel like I've done my part as an American to pay those taxes. Whose taxes does Congress want to cut though, the really rich people that have so much money already that they would probably have to buy Rhode Island to spend it all. The incredibly rich people that can afford to find the loopholes to hide there money so they don't end up paying nearly the percentage of taxes that they should be anyway. I think the only reason they want there taxes lowered is that they've become so lazy, they're tired of spending the time to hide there money.
Today I was watching the news and heard about the pissing match about funding the FAA. Of all the crap they could have decided to not fund, they chose the agency that's in charge of maintaining safety for all the planes that are flying over our heads?!?! All because they're fighting over shutting down a few small airports and a change to how airline companies can become unionized. Here's an idea, if this is our biggest problem right now, how about you don't take a five week vacation Congress and figure it out. Aw snap, that's another reason they're like school kids, they apparently get summer's off and have recess. How about this Congress, we're short on money and want some people in the FAA to work without pay, how about we take your pay away? Oh wait, we can't. You decide how much you make. In what world does that make sense anyway? I wish me and my peers at work could take a vote to give ourselves raises and decide how the company spends money and on what. That would be great, that is until the company goes bankrupt and we would be out of jobs. Sound familiar, do you see the problem now? I really hope you do before China takes us over.
Currently members of the House of Reps servers a two year term and Senators serve a six year term. They are elected officials that need to get votes and once in, most of them keep getting re-elected. They spend a lot of there time raising money for there campaigns to get re-elected and telling you and I lies to make this happen. Let's think about this, let's say you worked for a company and were in charge of how much people received in bonuses. You only have so much to hand out and it's completely up to you. Let's say I give you $1,000 every year just to be nice ;). You realize that I probably won't continue to do that if I don't get anything in return, so you decide that I must have been a great worker this year and give me a $10,000 bonus. You don't really care about giving me 10 times the amount that I gave you because the money I gave you is going into your pocket and the money you're giving me is coming from the company's pocket. Sadly, this just about sums up our Congress.
I often think about how we fix our problems in this country and for some time now, I've felt that are problem has a lot to do with the powerful decision makers in this country. I'd like to purpose a solution. It's a bit radical, but really think about it, it could work. Rather than giving the incentive for politicians to have to raise money, prevent it all together. Anyone on the ballot will get two weeks to spend on campaigning and the money would come from a central fund where everyone gets the same. That can't spend any of it on t.v. commercials, mostly because I'm sick of seeing them. Then once elected, they get a one year term. If they don't do what the people wanted and what they said they would, we vote them the hell out. So why one year? It's simple, people can't remember things for very long, so politicians spend the first half of there term screwing us over and then the rest talking about what we really care about and how they're going to fix all our problems. By the time the election comes around, you forgot how that same great politician prevented your social security check from coming because the wanted to do some political posturing. Anything that affects them directly, such as pay raises, would be held by a special election where the "We the people" would vote to decide if they're worth it. It's very difficult to hold these politicians accountable with the system the way it's set up now.
Don't fear change, embrace it.
